 Captain Burton is a dynamic speaker and masterful mentor. “Diversity starts with proper development of people and teams at all level” is his mantra. During his 22-year career in the fire service, he has been able to serve in various capacities and develop and bring to fruition many projects.
Burton currently serves as an instructor at the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute that is held annually on the campus of Clark-Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. On December 13, 1997, Burton was featured along with noted historian Mr. Arnett Hartsfield, on the front page of the Los Angeles Times, during the dedication of the African-American Firefighter Museum.
Captain Burton is known as an historian that has dedicated himself toward the preservation and conservation of the history and struggle of Los Angeles' pioneering African-American firefighters. He is passionate about diversity and inclusion strategies and giving value to differences and similarities within the workforce, employers utilize the resources, the knowledge, and the creativity of all employees, which in turn strengthens organizational capabilities. Workplace diversity is a people issue, focused on the differences and similarities that people bring to an organization and through Captain Burton’s instruction he has helped hundreds of people promote to positions of higher authority in the fire department and throughout the community.
